Songnisan

Songnisan was actually our first road trip in Korea (sorry about the order of things). It took us four hours by bus on windy mountain roads but when we finally got there, it was well worth it. Below you can see the 106 foot tall bronze Budda looking over the monk village.
On the walk to the monk village, rocks are stacked on top of one another in little pryamids to attract some kind of spiritual connection.

Ricky and Tiff posing in front of the Budda. We think he was asking us for money!

The top picture shows most of the buildings in the village along with the surrounding mountains. The picture below is the oldest original wooden pagoda in Korea. At the top of this building, you can see a beam that extends out of the middle, this is what is now holding the structure up.

After we left the village, we went for a grueling 6 mile hike to the top of Songnisan. As you can see from the stairs and ladders, it wasn't your average stroll in the park. We also left a little late in the day, so we were hustling to make sure that we got back before dark.

Rain clouds and darkness were coming, but we still had a hard time tearing ourselves away from the beautiful scenery.

A couple of short clips from the top of Songnisan

Maybe we were a little too happy to be out of the office and in nature again!

We have been enjoying your blog so much, you guys! The beautifu nature that you have been able to enjoy is breathtaking. The pictures are so beautiful, I cannot imagine what it must be like to experience it. I have to tell you that I am quite impressed with your mountaineering skills, both of you! Tiff, you are an animal, like a cougar or something scaling those mountaintops. If I can get this to post I will write again...Mom

rhypendYea, I got a post to work! OK, now I can write some more. So a few of blogs back I stared making comments to others that I could not tell for sure who was actually doing the writing on your blog. You two talk the same! It's kinda wierd for a mother not to recognize her own kid's voice! It has been very funny for us to try and guess. Ricky fessed up to some of it, but gave you the credit Tiff for this amazing blog. Looking at the world through your eyes and words has been quite a wonderful blessing. We have to find the blessing in this long distance relationship, so I have to say that this is definitly a big one. So we particularly have enjoyed the Senior Shots amid the wild flowers. They may just find a permanent place in our house...Oh yeah, you heard me. Your plan to travel every weekend is such a great idea. The time will go very quickly! We love you both so much! Mom and Dad
